What Lies Beneath encaustic workshop with Kelly Milukas at Castle Hill May 28 2026
What Lies Beneath — Workshop with Kelly Milukas

Explore luminous underlayers and glowing depth through encaustic glaze painting in “What Lies Beneath.” In this one-day workshop, Kelly Milukas will guide participants through techniques to achieve radiant fields of color using transparent glaze layers of luminous encaustic paints. You will learn how to build visual interest, strengthen values, and create powerful mood and vibration in your compositions.

What You’ll Learn: In this workshop, participants will explore three key underpainting approaches using encaustics. Kelly will demonstrate how to use earth tones to establish atmosphere and grounding, chromatic grays for grisaille to build a strong value structure, and vibrant complementary color schemes to energize the surface. These underpainting methods are designed to amplify visual depth, create stronger color unity, and improve consistency throughout the composition, helping your final work feel more intentional, dynamic, and luminous.
